GOING FORWARD into 2023
A backup plan is needed for the Freecycle and probably some other events
What should we do differently? Too much emphasis on educating the public?
TOPICS TO DISCUSS:
- MEMBERSHIP DUES: should we continue to collect? Explain what happens to funds
- COMMITTEES FOR EVENTS: HHGTF Board suggested we have people sign-ups to be on an actual committee for the events we host…with someone(s) selected to be responsible if Judy can’t. See the sign-up sheets for this.
- SCHOLARSHIP: Continue? Depending on the number of applicants? $1,000/if only one applies, and $1,500 split if we select 2..requires a vote
- ARBOR DAY…donate $$$ for another tree planting? Board voted on $250 again this year
- CITY CLEAN-UP DAY: Girl Scout troop would like to help
- GAZEBO POTLUCK: Need help with set-up if we do this
- GLASS RECYCLING: Repeat Glass company….explain what is going (or not) on with this…the board also voted to offer to pay for 3 (or a few more) months for the bin to be placed in the city as a pilot program. Explain plan B if this doesn’t work.
- FREECYCLE/E-WASTE DRIVE: Should we continue with it? Explain the need for backup for Judy
- Website: new server…free to us as we are a non-profit, but will still need to pay for the domain name next year.
- WHAT SHOULD WE KEEP: Meet in the Barn or Community Center?
- Campaign for 2023…..? NATURE & US or OUR NATURAL WORLD …suggestions?
- January…no meeting? Board agreed
- February… Cleveland Seed Bank?
- March…Business Meeting
- April….Soil and Water…Kate Chapel…botanist- Landscaping for the future- Barn?

Freecycle/E-Waste Drive
Sunday, June 26, 10-3, will be the annual freecycle/e-waste drive. Here are some things to remember:
- No drop-offs after 2, please.
- Volunteers, please wear green shirts.
- Habitat is scheduled to be in the parking lot so hopefully, that works out well.
- If anyone brings a large flat screen TV try to get a $20 fee from them. This is at the recycler’s request. There will be at least 1 person with a check made out to Accurate IT with her 50” flat screen. We will still take the TVs but the company has to pay extra to recycle them.
Any more volunteers?

Highland Heights Community Clean-Up Day
NEW! The City of Highland Heights Community Clean-Up Day will be Sat., April 23, 2022, from 9-1:00.
I met with Mayor Chuck Brunello and his assistant Jolene to discuss the clean-up day. The date and time were confirmed along with a few other details. The Task Force was asked to purchase the grabbers (x25). With the monies left, I ordered and received 40 orange volunteer vests. I will contact our city garden club and the leader of the Boy Scouts to
be participants The mayor will reach out to the schools and I believe a business and perhaps, St. Pascal. There will be a committee meeting soon, and Chuck has decided to have participants go into each ward to collect trash by the roads. I have a signup sheet. If however, you have access to a computer you will need to register online. I will send out a link soon.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers are needed for the FREECYCLE/E-WASTE DRIVE, Sunday, June 26 for two shifts. I will send out the sign-up sheet via email.
August Field Trip
We still need to confirm the date and time. I will have them soon (I hope!).
Rust Belt Riders and Repeat Glass Bins
When I met with the mayor we also discussed allowing these bins in our city. Chuck agreed to contact both companies and get back to me on
the decision.
Refill Shops
I took a trip to Refill Goodness and dropped off all the clean glass jars and bottles I have been saving for the past year. This is the company that provided a Zoom tour in 2021 around her space. Jenn expects to acquire a truck and do more pop-up events in the future. As it took about 25-30 minutes to get there.
I went online and looked for any refill shops on the east side and
found one in Chagrin Falls. Success! ”Little Spark Refill Shop” is on West Orange St, Chagrin Falls. It is near the theatre.
Movie Night: ”Intelligent Trees”
Do trees talk, know family ties and care for their young? Peter Wohlleben (The Hidden Life of Trees) and Suzanne Simard (The University of British Columbia, Canada) have been observing and investigating communication between trees for decades. Intelligent Trees is based on Peter Wohlleben’s best-selling book.
It is available to stream on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Intelligent-Trees-Peter-Wohlleben/dp/B01LWIEY4F

Rated “E” for everyone.
