Highland Heights Green Task Force is a volunteer-run, community environmental group. We strive to promote and organize community educational programs and projects with an emphasis on environmentally friendly living, here in Highland Heights, Ohio, AND BEYOND!
Events and meetings are FREE. All are welcome, though we encourage all to become members to support our efforts. Learn more about how to become a member here.

Highland Heights Green Task Force meets on the first Wednesday of the month at the Highland Heights Community Center at 7 PM. Check the calendar for scheduled presentations and discussions.
We’d also like to invite you to join us for other programs and/or events. These are also listed on the calendar. All are free and open to the public! We look forward to meeting you!

HHGTF: Fourteen Years of Accomplishments!
Being an environmentalist can feel overwhelming; it can seem as if we aren’t making any progress at all. That’s why it’s important to reflect on the many things we HAVE accomplished! Here is a list of thirty-six accomplishments – from the MANY – that HHGTF and its members can be proud of!
- Created the Highland Hts Green Task Force with 11 founding members (2011)
- Became a registered 501c3 (2012)
- Increased paid memberships to 70
- Held approximately 100 speaker presentations addressing the yearly campaigns.
- Provided many presentations to numerous organizations on topics about the HHGTF and/or “Use This, Not That”
- Hosted 14 Freecyles. These are free drop-off and take events. Over the years many treasures have been kept out of landfills.
- Hosted 14 E-Waste drives, sending 16-18,000 lbs. of broken/obsolete electronics to a recycling facility, and keeping the items from a landfill.
- Enlarged our local elementary school garden, educating kids on gardening and composting, while growing pumpkins, corn, and herbs.
- Assisted the local school system in applying for a grant to purchase a compost tumbler.
- Monitored the student “compost team” efforts, bi-weekly.
- Brought independent glass recycling to our city.
- Worked with the Mayor to start a Community Clean-Up Day for Earthday.
- Generated and donated funds to purchase and plant trees in our city park for Arbor Day. (5 years so far!)
- Started “Greener Together Network of Northeast Ohio” Facebook page for community and local environmental organizations to post events and information. Currently, there are 157 members
- Have awarded eight years of scholarships to graduating Mayfield High School seniors, who are majoring in engineering, architecture, agriculture, or any environmental-based field.
- Participated in 13 years of outreach tables such as Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital Earthday celebration, city community days, library opening, etc.
- Commissioned a Little Free Library to be built and installed near our city pool.
- Arranged for clothes recycling bins to be installed in our local schools.
- Participated in the “Skip the Straw” campaign with the City of Cleveland, Office of Sustainability.
- Contributed/authored articles for our city newsletter, 3 per year for 14 years, giving tips and information on living environmentally friendly lives.
- Conducted yearly field trips, including “Trash Hauler’s” recycle/transfer facility, industrial plastic recycling facility, organic bioenergy plant, etc.
- Assisted our local police dept. with advertising for the Pharmaceutical Takeback Program.
- Gave on-site composting demonstrations.
- Early presentations by “Fresh Fork” helped build subscriptions for organic produce.
- Assisted the city in securing grants to purchase recycling bins for the city buildings and City Park.
- Worked with Beyond Pesticides Ohio to remove toxic chemicals from our schools.
- Assisted in creating the high school environmental club.
- Held a series of vegetarian cooking classes.
- Encouraged local restaurants to give 5% discount if customers come with their own “to go containers” (doggy bags)
- Sponsored 13 years of “Zero Waste Potluck Dinners” for our membership and guests.
- Hosted/organized “Green Vendor Holiday Boutique” for 3 years
- Participated in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s “Great Lake Erie Boat Float” (all boats made out of plastic containers..we used rain barrels)
- Organized an “Eco Fair” @ Mayfield Library with 22 environmental organizations
- Collected alkaline batteries for recycling
- Supported the “Plastic Bag Ban”
- Arranged for a creek clean-up with the “Student Conservation Association” and Cuyahoga Soil and Water District volunteers.
